Posted: March 28, 2020 — We have made the difficult decision to cancel FM’s May 19th academic award ceremony and the May 20th commencement ceremony. We are considering alternative ways to honor our graduates’ achievements at a later date.
We know this is a highly anticipated time for our graduating students, and we realize how much they will miss the recognition and closure that a commencement ceremony would bring. Please know that this is a difficult decision for us to make, but by doing so, we are taking the best action we can to protect the health and safety of our students, family members, faculty, staff, and those in the greater community.
We chose not to delay this decision to provide certainty for students and families and to further encourage everyone to stay home. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention currently recommends that no gatherings with 50 people or more take place for the next eight weeks. We know that these restrictions are likely to increase.
Students who are successful in achieving the academic standards established by the College will still graduate in May, despite the lack of a ceremony, and will receive their diplomas in the mail later in the summer. We applaud the hard work and determination of our graduating students.
In the meantime, we hope our graduates know that everyone at Fulton-Montgomery Community College is incredibly proud of and inspired by their achievements. This has been an exceptionally difficult time for us all, and we appreciate the patience, determination and resolve that you’ve demonstrated.
Anyone who has purchased regalia either online in person will be eligible for a full refund. Please contact the Raider Trader Store with any questions.
