Tutoring Services

Learning Commons
This academic year we are utilizing a new service for students. In addition to our professional full time faculty in the Math Lab and Writing Center, we will also have Academic Coaches available to work with our students needing tutoring and academic support services. Academic Coaches can be reached either in person through the Evans Library Learning Commons or remotely via Blackboard and MS Teams. All FM students also have access to NetTutor, an online, interactive tutoring service in many subject areas (available 24/7).

Please view these welcome videos from Colleen Sanders, Coordinator of the Writing Center and Bill Lomanto, Coordinator of the Math Lab.

Colleen Sanders  Colleen Sanders shares information with us on the Writing Center

The Writing Center is an academic center, located in FM’s Learning Commons (Evans Library, first floor), where students can develop their college writing skills. Students may work with peer and professional tutors on any phase of the writing process: brainstorming a topic, preparing an outline, drafting and revising, and using specific documentation styles, like MLA, APA, and Chicago. Tutors will not edit students’ writing, but they will help students to identify their surface errors and/or consistent patterns in their own writing. Tutors are available to review grammar and citation rules and to guide students in their own writing processes.
The Writing Center is a drop-in tutoring center, staffed in person 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. on Monday and Wednesday. It is staffed remotely on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Appointments are also available.Contact Colleen at colleen.sanders@fmcc.edu for more information.

Bill Lomanto Bill Lomanto talks us through how to get Math tutoring  in this video on the Math Lab.

Math Lab – On Campus and Virtual Access

The Math Lab will be available both on campus and virtually while math courses are delivered remotely.  The Math Lab is located on the second floor of the Evans Library.  The on campus Math Lab hours will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 to 4:30pm.  The Math Lab Coordinator and/or academic coaches will be on duty during those days/hours to assist students taking math or math-related courses.
Regarding virtual access, the Math Lab Coordinator, Bill Lomanto, has Teaching Assistant status in Blackboard for all math classes.  Therefore, you can reach out to Bill using Course Messages in Blackboard when you are in need of some help.  Getting help from Bill or one of the academic coaches may occur using Course Messages, email, or Microsoft Teams video conferencing.  Look for more details in Blackboard.

If you have any questions, contact Bill at william.lomanto@fmcc.edu .
